Die Spontis sind den meisten heute allerhöchstens wegen ihrer Sprüche oder einiger weniger prominenter Aktivisten wie Joschka Fischer und Daniel Cohn-Bendit bekannt (siehe oben, die großen Männer ...). Dabei wird vergessen, welche Bedeutung sie in den Jahren nach dem Zerfall der 68er-Revolte für das folgende "rote Jahrzehnt" hatten und wie prägend sie für das linke Milieu bis heute sind. Während sich Tausende Aktivist*innen Vorbildern wie Mao, Stalin oder der DDR zuwandten, hielten diejenigen, die später Spontis genannt werden sollten, an den Versprechen der antiautoritären Revolte fest und wurden so zu wichtigen Wegbereiter*innen für die undogmatische Linke der kommenden Jahrzehnte.
