Hooded jacket with a beautiful jellyfish printed on the back.
Jellyfish are quite fascinating. They have inhabited the earth longer than amphibians, reptiles and mammals. They have been swimming in the seas for 500 to 650 million years and have hardly changed since then. Despite their simple physique, they are true survival geniuses. Funny how most people know so little about them. Here are some exciting facts:
-Jellyfish are not an animal species, but jellyfish are called a stage in the life of a cnidarian.
-Some species glow in bright colors, some species have poisonous tentacles.
-Jellyfish are made up almost entirely of water.
-The size varies greatly: the smallest species measure a millimeter in diameter, the largest several meters.
-Some types of jellyfish have a fantastic ability to regenerate: For example, if they lose a tentacle, it grows back completely. The "immortal jellyfish" (Turritopsis dohrnii) gets its name from its unique ability to live forever! When an immortal jellyfish becomes too stressed, it reverts from its adult medusa stage and becomes a baby polyp again. Through this process of "transdifferentiation," the immortal jellyfish avoids aging and dying by starting its life cycle over. wow, wow, wow!
