SPEAK step into the political arena to take on the politicians!

Today’s official launch of the SPEAK Political website: www.speakpolitical.org marks the party’s first step into the public domain. SPEAK Political is unique in that it is the only political party to represent both the interests of people and of non-human animals. It is a party marked by its straightforward approach and motives, a party that wants to see real change rather than just be seen to want it.
SPEAK Political was born out of SPEAK Campaigns, a campaign that was set up to oppose Oxford University building a new animal research laboratory. However, SPEAK Political is a completely separate entity that will operate alongside SPEAK Campaigns, offering an additional way forward.
At SPEAK Political we want no part of the three party political system: instead we intend to subvert it. This isn’t about winning seats but about taking seats away from MP’s that we have targeted. In real terms, all we need to do is lose some of these people their seats in order to gain genuine political influence and move animal rights to the top of the political agenda.
We intend to stand against MPs of all political parties who are outspokenly anti-animal, but particular attention will be focussed on Labour MPs with small majorities. The reason for this focus being the fact that the Labour Party prior to their 1997 election victory promised ‘New Labour, New Life for Animals’. As we have subsequently seen, nothing could be further from the truth, and their promises have proven to be nothing more than a lie.
SPEAK Political want to reinvigorate the electoral system, taking on the politicians in their own constituencies and letting them know: there really is nowhere for them to hide. If they promise us something and they don’t deliver or if they abuse their positions in order to promote corporate business, then SPEAK Political will be there to hold them to account.
We believe there has never been a better time to do this. People are tired of traditional party politics. Let’s face it, whichever party it is, they promise the world and deliver nothing, which is why voter apathy is now so prevalent.
SPEAK Political intend to take power away from the politicians and give it back to the people, where it should be. For too long now politicians have been allowed to exist in the cosy world of party politics. All that is about to change.
